Tuesday May 24th Bob Dylan is turning 75, and Tom Roger Aadland celebrates the great American rock icon by releasing his own Norwegian version of Dylan’s beautiful love song “I Want You from 1966, both as a single and a music video.
One of Dylan’s great accomplishments as a songwriter is how he has expanded the range of content for a popular song. Who but Dylan can start out with a guilty undertaker, a lonesome organ grinder, silver saxophones and broken bells and turn it convincingly into a beautiful declaration of love?
“Eg må ha deg” has been recorded at ABC Studio, Etne, where Tom Roger Aadland also made his successful Dylan album “Blod på spora”. Producer Lars Voldsdal brought in Erland Dahlen, Tor Egil Kreken, Kjetil Steensnæs and Sigbjørn Apeland for the sessions.
“Say what you mean, make it rhyme and put a backbeat on it”, was John Lennon’s recipe for writing a good song. Tom Roger Aadland and the band has shifted the beat around a little, but has kept the images and the sense of longing. And while Dylan sings Sinatra, Aadland currently sings Dylan. We’re awaiting the continuation!
