Short distance melancholy: "Like til mi dør" video

Artist Tom Roger Aadland is inspired by longing when he now releases the music video to his song “Like til mi dør”.

– The video and song has this ambivalence to it. What you might call melancholy with a feelgood factor, Aadland says.

He is known for his melancholic lyrics, and the video portrays this mood. But the story about a relationship that has been is not biographical.

– It’s more about getting across the feeling of looking back with mixed emotions. Most people can connect to that, Aadland says.

Filmed outside his kitchen window
The video was filmed just outside Tom Roger Aadland’s kitchen window at Tøyen in Oslo. He loves the area, and it was natural place to film.

– Tøyen contains so many things. Meditative quietude in the Botanical Garden, lively shop windows in Tøyengata, and inviting back yards if you look for them.

Picked his son
One of the two characters in the video is his own son, Eirik Ørevik Aadland.

– People often say we look alike, so I thought it might be cool to suggest a connection, some sort of likeness between the young man and the singing storyteller, Aadland says.

The other character in the video is played by dancer Rikke Westerlund Lie from Haugesund. Tom Roger Aadland has received brilliant reviews for his new album “Rapport frå eit grensehotell”, and the song “Like til mi dør” is much played on the radio.
